School Organisation

House System

The school is divided into four houses named after stately homes in Staffordshire: Chetwynd, Sandon, Tixall and Weston. Within each House there are eight House Groups each overseen by a House Tutor. From September each year, Year 11 students will be moved into dedicated Year 11 House Groups, in order to focus more on the demands of this important year.  House Groups meet every day for 25 minutes.

House Time Programme

The weekly house time programme consists of a House Assembly (and a Year Assembly every three weeks), News Article Discussion, Quiz, and a series of activities incorporating team building skills, independent thinking skills and motivational skills.

Vertical Tutoring

We operate a vertical tutoring system; this means a number of pupils from each year group Year 7-10) make up a House Group. This composition of mixed ages ensures that our ethos for the highest standards of pastoral care is paramount; and, allows us to offer an extensive but informal programme of mentoring to all students. (It is important to note, however, that teaching groups in all subjects remain year group based).

Students arriving at school after 8.50 am even at 8.51 am will be marked late.

If a student is late to school without a valid reason they will receive a warning.  At the next subsequent lateness he or she will receive a lunchtime detention.  There is then a system of increasing sanctions for persistent lateness which culminates in a period in the Withdrawal Room.  Parents would also be asked to see a member of Leadership Group at this point.

Lunchtime Arrangements

Students have three alternatives:
A meal from the Dining Room
A wide range of full meals and snacks are served before school, at break and at lunchtime on a cafeteria basis.

Sandwiches brought by the student
These may be eaten in the Dining Room or in the Sandwich Room.  No eating is allowed anywhere else in the school building.

Students may go home for lunch
Although very few do, Lunch Passes are issued annually only to students in Year 9 or above,  whose parents request them. Younger students are encouraged to stay on site at lunchtime.  If an occasional pass is needed for any reason, this can be covered by a temporary pass from reception provided there is a letter from the student’s parent or teacher.  There are checks on students leaving the premises at lunch time to ensure they have a pass.
