Subject overview

The BTEC Travel and Tourism qualification is designed to achieve three key aims

  • Inspire and enthuse students to consider a career in the travel and tourism sector
  • Give students an opportunity to gain a good level of knowledge and understanding of the skills required to work in the travel and tourism sector
  • Give students the opportunity to develop the skills needed to enter employment within the travel and tourism sector in industries such as travel agency, visitor attractions and tourist information centres

BTEC

Exam Board – Pearson BTEC Level1/Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism
Brief overview of modules studied.  This should be no more than 100 words for each individual module.
Students will complete work in two core units of work and two specialist units.

1. The UK Travel and Tourism Sector

Students will investigate the main types of tourism which can be seen to take place in the UK. They will also investigate the economic contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different industries that make up the travel and tourism sector.

2. UK Travel and Tourism Destinations

Students will investigate the different types of tourism destinations that exist in the UK, locating where different destinations are in the UK, the routes and different types of transport that can be used to reach them and what types of activities different destinations offer.

3. International Travel and Tourism Destinations

Students will investigate a range of international tourism destinations to understand the reasons they appeal to different types of visitors and the activities different international destinations offer.

4. Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism

Students will investigate the factors which influence tourism and how successful it is in a specific place. This unit will also look at how factors such as natural disasters can have a significant impact on the sector.
