We understand that your child's transition into secondary school education can cause some concern. Therefore, through a series of transition opportunities, Sir Graham Balfour School aims to make this process worry free.
Year 5 Transition Activities
As part of our Transition programme we are very conscious to include Year 5 pupils. We offer a range of subject taster lessons at Sir Graham Balfour throughout the Spring and Summer term from 4.00pm-5.00pm. Pupils can take part in a variety of activities that have in the past included; making healthy snacks in Food Technology, experimenting with different gases and fire in Science, making pop up 3D cards in Technology and experiencing Foreign Languages and Culture.
We also offer a visit day for Year 5 pupils; this allows the students to have an insight of the lessons and facilities available to them at Sir Graham Balfour in the comfort of their own Primary School group.
Year 6 Transition Activities
Year 6 pupils will be invited to attend two full induction days in early July; this allows pupils to experience a normal school day. With the help of Year 7 pupils they will follow their own timetable and be able to familiarize themselves with the layout of the school. They will also meet their House Group and Tutors, as well as meeting new friends in their classes.
We also have a Year 6 Transition Evening in July which is open to parents. This is a chance for parents to meet the Leadership Group, Pastoral Team and SENCo, who will be supporting some of the pupils throughout their time at Sir Graham Balfour. This evening is an opportunity for parents to have any questions answered, view school uniform and more importantly be made aware of school procedures. An additional ‘Making the most of Year 7’ evening will also be held in September where parents can familiarize themselves with school systems, standards and expectations.
Family Transition Sessions
New to this academic year we will also be offering family fun sessions from January to March. Initial plans include; producing the perfect tea party, ‘Science is Fun’ and ‘Be a Public Speaker!’ More information to follow shortly.
