Maths
Subject overview
Our aim is to develop students as Mathematicians through the study of number, ratio and proportion, algebra, shape and measures and data handling.
Students develop their abilities to use and apply standard techniques,
- recalling facts, terminology and definitions,
- using and interpreting notation and accurately carrying out procedures or tasks requiring multi step solutions.
Students also develop their ability to reason, interpret and communicate mathematically,
- Making deductions, inferences and drawing conclusions
- Interpreting and communicating information accurately
- Presenting arguments and proofs
Students also develop problem solving skills within mathematics and other contexts
- Translating problems in mathematical or non-mathematical contexts into a process or series of processes
- Making connections between different areas of mathematics
- Interpreting results within the context of the problem
- Evaluating the methods used
