Curriculum Intent

In history we aim to provide a curriculum which instils a lifelong passion for history in our students, allowing us to facilitate their inquisitiveness by exploring some of the most significant events of our past. Through the curriculum we aim to develop historical skills in our students such as analysis; interpretation; significance; change & continuity and cause & consequence, which not only makes them successful historians, but equips them with transferable skills which will allow them to be successful in a wide range of other academic subjects as well as potential workplaces students may enter in the future.

Our curriculum has been chosen to enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of the events, people, actions and decisions that have shaped the UK as it today as well as the wider world. We strive to support student’s investigations of political intrigue, social upheaval and religious revolution and form their own opinions supported by focused factual knowledge, developed understanding and coherent and analytical arguments.

Our curriculum holds these principles at its core regardless of Key Stage, we have high expectations of our young people and in return we deliver lessons that encourage young people to think, discuss and write like an historian and take these attributes in other subject areas.
