Welcome

Welcome to the website of Sir Graham Balfour School which OFSTED in 2007 judged to be “a good school with outstanding features”. I hope you find the website useful and informative.

Our mission statement “learning, working, succeeding together” very much sums up our approach. We work hard to create a vibrant and mutually supportive climate for learning in which everyone can thrive.

With approximately 1000 students, we are a mid-size high school. This makes it possible for us to get to know each student as an individual. Our innovative, vertical, mixed age tutor groups (House Groups) help us to create a real sense of community and encourage students to take responsibility for the welfare of others.

This sense of community has an international dimension. In 2004, we raised the money to build a school in Thmar Bang in Cambodia. Our ongoing links with the school do much to promote the idea of global citizenship.

Over the last few years our external exam results have shown significant, sustained improvement. In 2007 we were ranked by the DCFS as the ninth most improved school in England for attainment at Key Stage 4. Our value added scores continue to be the highest in the district and one of the highest in the county.

We are fortunate to be housed in a state of the art, purpose built building constructed in 2002 which provides a first rate learning environment. This has been enhanced further by the new resources brought by our designation as a Specialist Maths and Computing School.

We also offer post 16 education. Our sixth form is an integral part of the Stafford Collegiate which involves all Stafford High Schools and Stafford College. This means we can offer a broad and balanced curriculum choice and a route to University entrance.

This is just a flavour of what we have to offer. I hope you enjoy reading through the following pages.
